"When you have the unflinching faith in God and in His love, you will become selfless. Therefore, it is said, where there is faith, there is love; where there is love, there is peace; where there is peace, there is truth; where there is truth, there is God and where there is God, there is bliss. Only when you develop this staunch faith in the existence and protection and love of God, can you really understand and experience the bliss of God everywhere."-Baba
With the Blessings of Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba, we are delighted to present our Fifty Ninth issue of Ananda Vahini. The weekly newsletter includes interesting musings and short excerpts from the week's events.
In this issue, we also bring you the report on Makara Sankranti Celebrations (January 14, 2017) and first part of the update of the celebration of grit, grandeur and grace - The Sri Sathya Sai Annual Sports and Cultural Meet 2017 (January 15 - 17, 2017).
In this week's INNER VIEW, Brother Madhusudan Naidu shares yet another interesting moment about the limitless love Bhagawan has for His students.

INNER VIEW
-By Sri Madhusudan Naidu
"My children are My life, and I am ready to do anything for them", declared an emotional Swami on the tear-filled Valedictory Function of the Annual Sports and Cultural Meet 2017, of the Sri Sathya Sai Loka Seva Group of Institutions at Sathya Sai Grama, Muddenehalli.
I have heard Him say this many times while I was a student, and even now, He continues to say and do the same. As Swami passed by a senior alumnus of the Institutions from Prasanthi Nilayam, He whispered to him, "Nothing has changed, Swami is the same and so is His love for the students, and the love of students for Swami. Only time and place has changed."
It was only a few months back when a tiny tot went up on his knees, and innocently prayed to Swami that he did not get hot water for his bath that day. Swami, the ever concerned Mother, called for the Warden right then and there, and enquired as to why the student did not get hot water. The Warden was puzzled as he wasn't aware of it and apologetically submitted to Swami that he will immediately do the needful. After being satisfied with the response and having assured the student that He would take care that there will be enough hot water for all, Swami resumed His Darshan. What came next from His lips was the sweetest thing I ever heard. He said, "I am the boss for all the elders, teachers and staff, but these little students are My bosses."
Isn't it why on the prayer of one little fellow of the Higher Primary School, who found it difficult to go to the newly renovated common toilet complex outside the hostel at nights, that Swami immediately got new toilets constructed on every floor of the hostel?
Isn't it why that when a student prayed for a better goshala for the cows in the Ashram, that He ordered the construction of a world-class massive goshala that can house 108 cows comfortably?
Isn't it why that when a student from Jayapura boys campus prayed for more sports ground, that He immediately acquired a few more acres for sports facilities?
Isn't it why that when the students shivered in cold on His 89th Birthday evening celebrations, that He ordered the construction of the world-class Premamrutham auditorium equipped with the latest audio-visual technology?
Isn't it why when recently a little student asked for drinking water close to every room despite a large centralised RO Water plant facility, that He immediately ordered 3000 water bottles to be given to each student for him or her to carry water wherever he or she went?
Isn't He always saying that "I am a servant and not the Master", and walks the talk, inspiring many to follow suit?
Swami was the same, is the same and will ever remain the same, for the changeless Truth is His very breath, just as the formless Love is His real form!
MAKARA SANKRANTI CELEBRATIONS JANUARY 14, 2017
Makara Sankranti, the festival of harvest is celebrated in myriad ways in different parts of the country. While it is celebrated as Makara Sankranti in Andhra Pradesh and some parts of North India, it is Pongal in Tamil Nadu, Lohri in Punjab and Bihu in Assam. The festival symbolises prosperity, plenty, abundance and harmony.
At Sathya Sai Grama too, the festival of abundance was celebrated with a definite aplomb. After Bhagawan was ushered into the Sathya Sai Premamrutham Hall and seated on the dais, the formal proceedings of the evening began with a vedic invocation of Bhoosuktam by the girl students of the Sri Sathya Sai Prashantiniketanam campus.
The entire hall was filled up to the brim with eager students from across all the Sathya Sai Loka Seva educational institutions and devotees. Students had all gathered for the five-day long celebration of the Annual Sports and Cultural Meet starting the next day.
Speeches
Two speakers selected by Bhagawan addressed the gathering. The first speaker, Kumari Keerthana, a second year Pre-University student of the Sri Sathya Sai Prashantiniketanam, Chikkaballapur campus, spoke beautifully about the inner significance of the festival. She then went on to narrate instances from her hostel life and how she learnt to control her anger by following Bhagawan’s teachings. She ended her speech, confessing to the audience that while her physical parents provided for all her needs, it was only Bhagawan who gave her true joy and happiness.
The second speaker for the evening was Shri Sanjeev Shetty from Alike, who serves as a Trustee of the Sri Sathya Sai Loka Seva Trust. He began by explaining the significance of festival, and said that while on this day the doors of heaven were open, the audience were already seated in Vaikuntam. He spoke fondly abaout revered Anna’s teachings and also narrated a recent experience of his with Bhagawan. He was unwell and had come to take blessings of Bhagawan before getting treated....

ANNUAL SPORTS AND CULTURAL MEET, 2017 - THE INAUGURATION, JANUARY 15, 2017
January 15, 2017 – Morning
“Sport has the power to change the world,” said Nelson Mandela. “It has the power to inspire. It has the power to unite people in a way that little else does. It speaks to the youth in a language they understand. Sport can create hope where once there was only despair.”
Sri Sathya Sai Sports and Cultural Meet is an annual celebration of the spirit of hope, courage and faith. The meet is not as much about the display of talent, proficiency and skill as it is about the display of unwavering faith and unsullied love. The death-defying daredevil acts of valour by the young students of Bhagawan stand tall among the hills of Chikkabalapur, inspiring the onlookers with their total faith in their Lord. Driven only by their untethered faith in their Master, these students manage to not just learn new feats each year but also excel in them.
Bhagawan arrives at the venue
Bhagawan arrived at the Sri Sathya Sai Samagamam Stadium in a beautifully decorated chariot that was led ably by the Muddenahalli Brass Band and traditional dancers. The Sports Meet was then officially declared open with the lighting of the lamp by the Guests of Honour, which included luminaries such as Sri Ramalinga Reddy, Honourable Minister for Transport, Karnataka, Sri KH Muniyappa, Member of Parliament, Sri Jude Felix, Former Captain of the Indian Hockey team and an Arjuna awardee, Sri Ronjan Sodhi, Indian Trap Shooter and recipient of the Arjuna award and the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award, Major General VPS Bhakuni, Visisht Seva Medal Awardee.

ANNUAL SPORTS AND CULTURAL MEET, 2017 - DAY TWO, JANUARY 16, 2017
Day Two, Evening
After having spent months in the run up to the Sports Meet practicing and perfecting their offering to their Lord, the students of the Sri Sathya Sai Loka Seva institutions were in a spiritual treat. The proceedings of the second day of the Annual Sports Meet function for the evening commenced with the arrival of Bhagawan at the Sri Sathya Sai Premamrutham Hall. Traditional Poorna Kumbam and vedic chants to the background of lilting bhajans made the entire experience surreal.
Once Bhagawan was seated, the students from the Sri Sathya Sai Vidyakendra, Muddenahalli campus chanted the Hiranyagarba Stotram, post which speakers chosen by Bhagawan addressed the gathering.
The first speaker was Kumari Divyasri, a student from Sri Sathya Sai Prashanthiniketanam College, Chikkaballapur campus. She spoke about her journey from Shirdi Sai to Sathya Sai, sharing instances of how her faith in the principle of oneness in both the forms of Bhagawan developed. The next speaker was Sri Govind Reddy, Chairman, Sri Sathya Sai Vidyaniketanam, Gulbarga campus. Having come to Bhagawan as a teenager of 14 years, he went on to serve at many of Bhagawan’s institutions. He even had the rare fortune of having driven Bhagawan by car for several years. He shared many exhilarating experiences, which brought to fore Bhagawan’s immense love and compassion for His students and devotees.
‘The Sookshma Sathya Sai’ – a drama presentation by the students from all the campuses of Bhagawan’s institutions followed next. Just like how a drop in an ocean is empowered by the compassionate ocean itself, this drama too received guidance from the Lord Himself, perfecting the presentation. The drama showcased revealing incidents...

ANNUAL SPORTS AND CULTURAL MEET, 2017
DAY THREE, JANUARY 17, 2017
Day Three, Evening
The celebrations of the Sri Sathya Sai Annual Sports and Cultural Meet, like all Sai functions, got grander with each passing day. The evening of the third day regaled the gathering with many a spiritual lessons that can be learnt only at His feet.
The evening programme commenced as soon as Bhagawan entered the Sri Sathya Sai Premamrutham Hall. Once Bhagawan was seated, the official proceedings began with the vedic invocation by the girl students from the Sri Sathya Sai Sriniketanam campus, Jayapura campus chanting the Pranahuti Mantram. The next presentation was a testimony to what heights art with a heart can achieve. Ms Rosario Ordonez, a devotee of Bhagawan, presented a beautiful painting, depicting Holy Spirit.
Two speakers selected by Bhagawan then addressed the audience. The first speaker was Kumari Sowmya, a student in the Sriniketanam Campus, Jayapura. Offering her salutations at the Lotus Feet of Bhagawan, she spoke about how she was completely unaware about Bhagawan and His message when she joined the campus as a sixth grader. But having found Bhagawan now, she urged the gathering to entertain a desire only for God, to see good in everyone and serve all fellow beings.
The next speaker was Dr KP Sai Leela, an alumnus of the Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning, Anantapur campus. Having served and retired as a Professor in the English Department of the Anantapur Campus, she now is serving as the Chairperson....

DIVINE DISCOURSE SUMMARY
JANUARY 14, 2017What is the inner significance of Sankranti?
Without giving up the quality of Tamas or inertia, we cannot realise the Truth. Without giving up the quality of Rajas or passion, we cannot develop true devotion to God. It is the Satvik quality, which helps us to develop devotion. This world is being ruled by three qualities: Tamas, Rajas and Satvik qualities. Ta
masik quality presents itself as laziness, inertia and a kind of stagnation in our life. In the Rajasik quality, you have the power to take up activity. The highest quality is the Satvik feeling. Satvikquality is a Divine quality. Selfless love is the basis of Satvik quality. It is very important to understand where the actions that we take up are leading us? Whether they are taking us towards our goal or Gamya? Those activities that are prompted by Satvik quality, give us fruits of bliss. Those which are based only on Rajasik quality, lead us to bondage. We should never do activity based on Tamasik quality. The journey of life is to rise from Tamasik quality to Rajasik quality and finally to the Satvik quality. This is the inner significance of Uttarayana or Sankranti. Uttarayana means to go or move upwards. ‘Uttara’ is the north. What do you find in India towards the north? The Himalayas. This mountain is always looking upwards. The inner significance of the Sankranti festival is that we have to learn to develop upward vision, spiritual and higher vision. Even on the spiritual path, taking up activity is very important. All activity should be done for the love of God and offered to God. When all our actions are based on love, all the Karma will become Karma yoga and it will become worship. When Satvik love gets into our Rajasik actions, then work is transformed into worship. That is the meaning of Uttarayana. We have to develop divine thoughts. When we think that we are just the body and mind, it is a low thought. The body feeling is Tamasik feeling. When you identify yourself with the mind, it becomes the Rajasik quality. When you...
